INV033 An extremely rare hollyhock'palace' bowl with Chenghua reign mark 15thCe

Dimension: 12.5cm Diameter (0.16cm mouth rim thickness), 5.3 cm Height. Provenance: This piece was acquired from a collector under its 40-years collection in Lingga, Riau Archipelago Indonesia. This blue and white'palace' bowl is gives a deep and long resonance almost like a small bell when tapped, indicating the thin structure of its potting, the hardness of its high purity body and covered overall with a thin clear glaze with bluish tinge typical of early 15th century Chenghua period - painted with scrolls of blooming four hollyhocks in both external and internal cavetto with budding flowers and 5-star foliage, the center well with a center of a six-petals roundel bordered with fine double line with almost no end-start brush lift, the unglazed mouth rim with double line border both on the external supported with a slightly inward foot and the foot base with six characters "da ming cheng hua nian chi" of Chenghua reign mark in a double square. The cobalt appears brilliant blue with grayish tone washed effect, the unglazed mouth indicates it is fired upside down whilst the foot rim is wiped clean.
