This very rare Palmqvist art glass vase is from my late parent's private collection that was bequeathed to me a few years ago. My parent's were passionate collectors for over 50 years, and collected art glass of various artists from around the world.
Our wish is to find new homes where my family's treasured objects will be appreciated, given a new life, and bring enjoyment to others. This very rare and heavy Kraka vase is a highly collectible treasure.
It is a prestigious and phenomenal work of art from the Sven Palmqvist's Kraka series. Incised to its underside is Orrefors, Kraka Nr.
Palmqvist began his Kraka line in 1944. According to the Glas in Schweden book, Kraka models in 1968 were numbered 472 - 481. The vase appears to be clear with an amber hue. It is internally decorated with a deep blue fishnet pattern.
According to the book, Scandinavian Ceramics And Glass 1940s to 1980s, the name, Kraka, is derived from a Nordic legend about a woman who was draped by a fish net. The measurements of the vase are stated below. Please note: I have a color vision deficiency condition, so please reference the images for personal determination. I do my best (with husband's input) to identify and capture the color as close as possible in the images. Though, please keep in mind that display monitors can vary greatly. No original box was found for this vase. Measurements and weights will be close, but may not be exact. Vase Length: 7.0 inches. Vase Width: 5.5 inches.Vase Height: 6.0 inches. Scandinavian Ceramics And Glass 1940s to 1980s, George Fischler & Barrett Gould, pg 136 briefly describes Kraka history, process, and legend of the name. I was very fortunate to receive detailed instruction on packing fragile items from my parents, which I have in turn passed on to my husband. Both of our feedback can attest to the care we give in packing all items to help ensure they are delivered undamaged. Please understand that being able to provide this service will depend on the size, weight, and fragility of the items. An important tip passed on to me. In extreme cold or hot weather conditions, please allow the package to reach room temperature before opening to avoid possible stress damage.
