Here we have an exceptional baluster shaped pitcher. This baluster form dates to the early1800s with few surviving today. The pitcher is beautifully decorated with 20 thin blue and white raised bands that contrast nicely against the yellow clay. The bands, 4 blue and 16 white, are consistent in width and spacing with no skips or smears. With a wide flared base that is recessed on the underside.
Measuring 7 ½" in height to the rim by 5 ¾"in diameter across the foot this is in near mint condition with only a short line at the rim that doesn't detract. There are a few baluster shape pitchers in the Collector's Guide to Yellow Ware series books, but none with this beautiful banding decoration. This is an attractive and highly desirable early pitcher that any collector of yellow ware would be proud to own.
