18 RARE Antique KLEY HAHN 169 Closed Mouth POUTY Character BOY Doll. This extremely RARE 18 Kley Hahn Character is of a young BOY with a large chunky body, beautifully sculpted pouty face, round cheeks, closed mouth, full lips, and expressive eye-brows.
These eyebrows are one of the hallmarks of this German maker. He has his bisque head, original mohair wig/ pate and expertly made antique clothing are outstanding condition. No earring holes are found in his head since he was created as a boy. Of one of the lesser known German firms who competed against Kammer & Reinhardt in 1910 when art character children were very popular.
Kley and Hahn made some of the most beautiful, unique, and high quality character dolls of the time. And this boy is extraordinary. 18 tall which is average height for the KH 169. Exceptional, high quality, pink bisque used for the head with crisp modeling that has first out-of-the-mold appearance.JUST LOOK at the detailed molding of the face the carefully molded nostrils and the inner ears are so extraordinary and not seen in many dolls (German or French). You can also easily see his chin which creates a distinct double chin. This makes him so life like and ADORABLE! Original pate still attached to the original blonde mohair wig. Desirable sweet, gentle expression and smile on his face shows a serious, slight pout with a look of wonder. Deep medium unusual ocean-blue glass eyes are symmetric from side to side. These sleep eyes are UNCOMMON in closed mouth dolls. Serious open-closed mouth (similar to a Jumeaus open-closed mouth) shows a slight space between the upper and bottom lips; however, the bisque head is completely closed on the face and is painted the same color between the lips. This allow for his expression of awe.
UNUSUAL numerous, multiple-stroke eye brows are skillfully painted in a slight curve that help project the serious, slightly pouty look. They are also symmetric above both eyes. Detailed and expertly-painted lips in a medium pink-peach color that creates a full bow on the top lip and full curve on the bottom. Both lips outlined in a darker peach color.Wonderful pink complexion that is typical of an older toddler (not baby) showcases his expert and delicate blushing of the cheeks and larger highlighted dots used for his nostrils in the same medium pink-peach shade used for his lips. Ten (10) jointed (some ball joints) and swivel neck are used for his very chunky composition toddler body. This solid and larger body is common to Kley Hahn character children and is NOT found in most antique dolls regardless of the firm. Securely strung and can easily sit and stand (with doll stand). Ecru/ light peach colored, fully matching sailor outfit in a light-weight linen fabric which include. Long sleeved, double-breasted jacket with six (6) Mother-Of-Pearl (MOP) buttons and a big sailor collar.

ALL of his single fingers and toes are intact and no parts of his body have been repaired.
The red lines between his toes are still intact. See pictures 8 and 11. Most of the body has the original shiny finish but at times it appears as if some of the surfaces have been dulled.
These may be the repainted areas but could also relate to age and primarily affects the lower legs. See pictures 8 and 10.There is an occasional black skid mark and pencil markwith several on the front torso but mostly confined to the back and right torso. See pictures 8 and 9. Original stringing of all joints and is intact and strong. The chipping to the body includes (see pictures 7, 8, 9, and 10). Paint chipped without affecting the composition beneath. Left inner elbow (¼), left outer elbow (¼), right mid back (¼), and right heel (½). One (1) area of chipped paint that impacts the composition beneath it but it is very superficial (½) on the left big toe. See pictures 10 and 11. One (1) crack in the paint (2 long) on the inner left arm. This does not impact composition but could create further chipping of paint in the future that would require gentle removing of his jacket when doing so. I have loaded many pictures and have doubled some of them so that you could get the best idea of the unique beautiful characteristics of this doll and his condition.
